The “Year of ReturnGhana 2019” is a historical,cultural and spiritual landmark marketing campaign purposely targeting the African – American and Diaspora to mark 400 years of the first enslaved Africans who arrived in Jamestown Virginia and to also help African-Americans to resettle and learn to rekindle their route and root.

The Year of Return 2019 is facilitated by the Ghana Tourism Authority(GTA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture in collaboration with the Office of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President the PANAFEST Foundation and The Adinkra Group of the USA.The year of Return 2019 was designed to mark the 400 years since the first African slaves landed on the American soil in a place called Jamestown in Virginia.This initiative is suppose to revamp the spirit of our bothers and sisters in the diaspora to come home to encourage development and investment.

There are about 32 castles and Fort spread along Ghana’s coast which is purposely built for this strange acts of slave trade,these monuments makes Ghana one of the African countries to embark on this project to welcome our brothers and sisters home to witness and testify about where and how the diabolic trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Journey to the unknown begun,the initiation was first conceived by the kuffour’s administration dubbed Joseph’s Project and it was chaired and led by the late Jake Obistebi Lamptey,then minister of Tourism with the aim of encouraging those in the diaspora to come home.

APRIL(Friday 19th) YENKO AND HERITAGE PARAGLIDING FESTIVAL

This event is happening at Kwahu as part of the Easter activities.The Kwahu paragliding festival was first introduced in 2005 by the Ghana’s Tourism ministry.

JUNE(Saturday 15th) WAX PRINT FESTIVAL

African style of dressing is generally different from other part of the world especially Ghana.Wax print contribute about 75% of the cloths we worn everyday in Ghana,so this event will highlight the importance of the Ghana wax print and it’s increased usage by our brothers and sisters in the diaspora.

JUNE-JULY(29th June-July 1st) HOME COMING SUMMIT

The home coming summit is one of the musical explosion event in this years Back to Africa summit,our beloved Reggae artist who is making it large across the world Zonto or Black Prophet will be performing with other Jamaican artist like Kenyatta Hill,Duan Stephenson,Morgan’s Family and Leroy Sibbles as well as other local Reggae-Dance-hall artist.

JULY(Monday 1st- Sunday 7th) HELLENIC WEEK RE-UNION AND DIASPORA HOMECOMING

Ghana verses USA comedy night show is one of it’s kind that is happening at this years summit,this is where Ghana meet USA in boot for boot comedy night.A group trip will be organize to the Elmina and Cape Coast Castle,Kakum,Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum etc.There is also going to be a diaspora celebration at the Accra International Conference Center.

This event will showcase how African hair style have affected our brothers and sisters in the diaspora,there will be hair braiding competition and more.

 

INVESTMENT FORUM(

Investment Forum will imbibe on how to promote and develop Ghana through business and investment.

 

MARCUS GARVEY AWARD BALL AND BANQUET(

This event is in remembrance of two great African leaders and freedom fighters who fought for our independence and our rights,they will also celebrate individuals and people who have done great works to enhance the Pan-African unity.

 

JAMESTOWN TO JAMESTOWN(

The first slave ship landed on the shore of Virginia,Jamestown,this event will try to disclose how our people suffered during this inhuman journey to an unknown.The program will start from Jamestown Virginia to Jamestown,Accra,Ghana to commemorate the 400 years anniversary of this savage act.

CHARLIE WOTEY FESTIVAL(

This event will seek to bring Ghana’s arts and crafts to the street to showcase our rich arts and craft.The activities for the event include; music shows,cultural performance and more.
SEPTEMBER(1st September-2nd)
Oguaa(Cape Coast) Fetu Afahye is a popular cultural and traditional festival of the chiefs and people of Cape Coast in the Central Region.During this day,chiefs are carried in a beautiful and colorful palanquin through the principal street to the Victoria park amid drumming,dancing and street carnival.

GHANA CARNIVAL(November)
This event will use to re-position and redeem Ghana’s Carnival,Arts and Culture in the world Carnival market.
RIGHT TO RETURN AND AFROCHILLA(December)
This festival is designed to highlight talent from and within Africa,it is also an interactive event that is intended to encourage collaboration and to explore and promote our culture.Some of the activities include;Art & Fashion shows, Live painting,Cuisine, Live performances etc.
