There are so many facts about Ghana and it can take us the whole page to talk about that.A country located in the western part of Africa,along the Gulf of Guinea and North of the equator,The distance across the widest part, between longitude 1° 12′ east and longitude 3° 15′ west,It  measures about 560 kilometers,the southernmost coast at Cape Three Points is 4° 30′ north of the equator.It also extends inland for some 670 kilometers to about 11° north.It has an area of 238,533 square km.Accra is it’s capital.The Greenwich Meridian also passes through Tema,Eastern part of Ghana.Ghana is the first country to gain independence from the Europeans,the name Ghana is borrowed from a medieval kingdom called Ghana which literally means WARRIOR KING in the Soninke Language but the present Ghana was called the Gold Coast (because of its abundance of gold) before the independence in 1957 and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was it’s first president.

RELIGION

Ghana has diverse religions spanning from Traditional,Christian,Islamic to Buddhism. Normally,Ghana is a free worship some,this means you can choose any religion that suit your beliefs.The Christians consist of about 63%, which is the largest, 16% of Muslims and 21% for Other.

WEATHER

Ghana has two major seasons: the rainy season and the dry season(harmattan).
The south has two raining seasons which start from April-May to July-August and the minor rains from September to October. The northern region experiences just a single rainy season from June to October but more sometimes. The dry season start from November to April. The atmosphere is humid and moist.

TRANSPORTATION

Ghana has some of the nicest road networks in Africa,especially routes to the Capital cities and big towns but there is a huge gap when you are entering villages and other remote communities.
There are Rail and Airlines to all  the capital cities and big towns such as Accra,Kumasi,Takoradi,Tamale etc.

Rail lines are stretched across towns like Sekondi,Tarkwa,Obuasi,Twifu Praso etc.The main Airport is Ghana International Airport,Accra,formally known as Kotoka international Airport.

Ghana’s Port and Harbors Authority is also in charge of the water transportation system.The two major port cities in Ghana are the Tema and Takoradi Ports and Harbors.

LANGUAGES

More than 100 languages are spoken nationwide. Akan is the major language widely spoken and it comprises of the Ashanti’s,Fanti,Nzema-Ahanta,Setwi,Akuapim etc.Other ethnic groups are the Ga-Adangbe,Ewe,Dagomba-Mamprussi and many more.Hausa is also a commonly used language for commerce as well,the second widely used language is English,it is the major academic and national language but there are various dialect spoken by the respective tribes.TWI language is part of Kwa branch of Niger-Congo family and a major local language for commerce,entertainment etc and it is spoken Nationwide.

LIFESTYLE/CULTURE

Ghana is fascinated in customs and traditions so it transcends to their style of dressing,eating,arts,entertainment etc. Friday has been declared by Ghana,s government as National Friday wear day, that is each one and sundry is encouraged to wear a local cultural or a traditional dress,this dont just make Ghana cultural and traditional exclusives but it also bring income to the local seamstress,tailors and fashion designers and also make them popular nationwide and worldwide.
FOOD/CUISINE: People of Ghana likes hot(peppery) and spicy foods. Fufu is a traditional staple food made from cassava,yam or coco-yam,it is pounded in a mortar with pestle and mix with plantain,it is mostly eaten with a palm-nut soup,groundnut paste soup,light(tomatoes,pepper,onion,garden eggs or peas etc)soup or even okro/okra and baobab leaves soup,it is mostly enjoyed on Sunday’s.

Emo Tuo(Rice balls) is also enjoyed on Sunday’s in Pubs,bars,beaches,restaurants etc.There are foods made from corn,millet,rice etc and can be eaten with vegetable,soup and leaves sauce. Ampesi is a cooked cassava,yam,plantain and coco-yam and can also be eaten with vegetable and leaves or melon seed sauce.

Ghana’s Jolliof Rice is a palatable and sumptuous rice dish concocted with tomatoes,pepper,onion,carrots,cabbage,meat or fish etc. Seafood’s is also very important to Ghanaians especially fish,shrimps,lobsters,mussels etc.They like to fry,smoke,roast or steam to make soup,stew,sauce etc.
Everywhere you go,you see people carrying food such us bread,local pastries made from cassava,maize,millet,coconut,plantain,palm fruits etc.You will also see people vending local foods wsuch as waakye(rice,beans and local medicinal herbs which make it colorful).Yokeh Gari(cooked beans with grinned or milled,fried cassava called Gari with palm/red oil)it can be eaten with a fried ripe plantain or fried mashed ripe plantain balls called Kakroo (mix with wheat flour,corn flour and spices). Nkran Dokono/Accra Kenkey(cooked corn-dough,wrapped in corn/maize husk).Fanti Dokono(Fanti kenkey), it is also made from corn as well and wrapped in plantain or banana leaves before cooking),these foods are mostly eaten with fried fish and grind pepper,all these foods can be seen along the street or roadside or some particular joints.
There are also local khebad vendors,Indomie(Spaghetti mixed with egg,meat and vegetables),Fried Rice with Chicken and Fried yam with fried turkey tail,fish or chicken. Koko (a porridge made from,corn-dough,millet etc) and can be eaten with bread,Koose(a local food made from beans  and mix with onions,black pepper,ginger,etc).

MUSIC/ENTERTAINMENT/NIGHTLIFE

Ghana is a music freak country,this means there is no way a Ghanaian will go without music,you can hear music playing around every corner,street or house. Ghana has many genre of music,from High-life,Hip-life,Gospel,Reggae dance hall,RnB,Brass and metal bands and traditional drums/ensembles etc but the most popular and widely accepted genre is High-Life music and also one of the oldest,some of the high-Life legends are Bob Cole,Nana Kwame Ampadu,J.A Adofo,Osibisa band,E.T.Mensah,C.K Mann,Paapa Yankson,Jewel Ackah,Pat Thomas,Kojo Antwi,Amakye Dede,Nana Tuffour,Ewurama Badu,George Darko,Ben Brako,Dady Lumba,Nana Acheampong just to mention a few.Though in modern Ghana there are other Artist/musicians who have taken our music to another level,now the high-life music has been blended with Afro fusion,hip-hop etc called Hip-Life  and some of the pioneers are Reggie Rockstone,Dj Azigiza,Slim Buster,TH4Kwages,Sass Squad,Ex-Doe,Chicago,Obrafour,Tic-Tac,Nananom,Buk Bak,Gee Life,Chico Dawuni,Ded Buddy,Nature and Harmony,Ancestors,Okomfo) Kwad33,A Pluz,Akatakyie etc.

The current crop of musicians who are rocketing Ghana music are Samini,Sarkodie,Stone Boy,Shata walle,Becca,Fuse ODG,R2Bs,Medikal,Kwame Euegn,KiDi,King Primise,Wendy Shay,MzVee,eShun and many more.
